Lingusamy has once again proved that when it comes to understanding the pulse of the mass, very few are better than him. It is widely believed that, though the performance of the movie in Tamil Nadu was well over-shadowed by Nanban, if the per screen average is to be considered, Vettai managed to match Nanban as far as the overseas scenario is concerned. Vettai was also given exemption from the Entertainment tax by the Tamil Nadu Government, which helped the movie to gain a higher share from the State and enter into profits in its second week itself.
The gross collections from Tamil Nadu is in the range of 35 Crores, which is a sure hit business, going by the current trade average. The Satellite rights have been bagged by Vijay TV for a whopping price of 7.50 Crores.! The movie has managed to do well in Kerala and Karnataka also, earning a share of about 90 lacs and 2.20 Crores respectively.
Vettai is estimated to be made at a production cost of about 32 Crores with a further 6 crores spent on printing, publicity and wide promotions. Vettai is a clear winner at the Boxoffice earning atleast a 20% Return on Investment for the Producer and Distributor put together.
