After taking a thunderous record breaking opening, Mohanlal's big budget extravaganza, directed by Rosshan Andrrews, Confident Group's Casanovva, has taken a huge fall in collections in its second week of theatrical run. The fall in collection is very alarming, that is has seriously hindered any chance of the movie being a profitable venture for its makers.
The film had opened big in 138 centers in Kerala, to mixed - negative reviews. Though the movie managed an outstanding 1st day gross of 2.16 Crores and a 1st week gross of about 9 - 9.25 Crores, it may now find it difficult to recover its high production cost of about 17 Crores. The new releases Second Show and Unnam have considerably eaten into Casanovva's collections.
Adding to the mixed reviews, a popular news channel had given absolute thumbs down to the movie in its second of release itself, which may in the final analysis prove to be a big factor which determined the film's fortunes at the release centers.
The film has become hold over in most of the centers. The number of theaters had drastically dropped to about 70 in the second week. Now it has further dropped to about 40 centers, in its 3rd week. The official collections in its 2nd week is not yet available in the trade, but it is rumoured to be in the range of about 2 - 2.50 Crores.
It is widely believed that the film disappointed most of the audience because of the wrong pre-release hype which it carried. The making of the movie took about 3 years to get completed and was hyped about as the most expensive and stylish film ever in Malayalam Cinema, which of course is true to an extent, But the fact that it was initially marketed as an action thriller, might have worked against the movie as it has turned out to be a fare which has given more screen time to subtle romance rather than power-packed stunts.
Overall, the movie has not managed to collect enough from the screens to classify it as even an average fare.
VERDICT - FLOP
