Mohanlal starrer Casanovva, directed by Roshan Andrrews has taken an earth-shattering opening at the Kerala Boxoffice. If the initial reports are to be believed, the movie has created a new record by grossing 9.20 crores in the 1st week. Media had reported that the film had managed to gross about 2.16 Crores in its release day itself from about 140 centers in Kerala. The film has released in 202 centers all over the world and is touted to become one of the highest grossing Malayalam movies ever, despite the mixed - negative reviews it has been receiving from the critics as well as the viewing public.
However, as the reports are clearly mixed, the film will find it hard to recover its gigantic cost of production. Trade reports suggest that the film was made at a budget of 17 Crores including publicity costs, by Dr C J Roy of Confident Group, jointly with Aashirvad Cinemas of Antony Perumbavoor. A television channel had widely criticised the amount spent in such a movie, casting strong doubts over the possibility of its recovery from a small market like the Malayalm film industry. However the opening which the film has taken is slowly proving such doubts to be wrong, however the lack of content may come back to daunt the collections in forth coming weeks.
The satellite rights of the movie has been sold to Asianet for a record price of about 4 Crores. The audio rights have fetched about 1.2 Crores and the overseas distribution rights have garnered another 2 Crores. The movie is believed to have earned a distributor share of about 4.65 Crores from its theatrical run till now, making the total collections worth about 11.85 Crores up till Week 1.
OPENING VERDICT - THUNDEROUS OPENING
