
Mohanlal starrer Casanovva has grossed about 11 Crore from Kerala alone, in its theatrical run of 24 Days till now. The distributor share earned by the film from the state is around 5.40 Crores. The film's collection went for a free fall after the thunderous record-breaking opening it had taken. The movie managed to collect a Worldwide Gross of about 9 Crores in its Opening Week, but could not build on that initial, due to poor word of mouth and negative reviews. The film released with the tag line of the being the costliest film ever made in Malayalam.
Casanovva released in 138 theaters in Kerala on 26 January 2012. But the film got hold over in 38 extra centers after the first weekend itself , and it got removed from 15 more main release centers after the first week. But the biggest blow it took was after the second week, when it got removed from as many as 37 centers thus making it almost impossible from there on, to make a successful run at the theaters. Casanovva has played 5989 shows till now in Kerala, and remains in 19 theaters on its 24th day.
The collections from other states is estimated to be in the range of 1.25 - 1.50 Crores. The Overseas rights of the film went for a whopping amount, and the film has managed to do well outside India, despite mixed reviews. Casanovva is expected to do a business of around $ 0.75 Million.
The grapevine is that the remake rights of the film was bagged by Ketan Shah for a record amount of 1.50 Crores, highest ever fetched by a Malayalam movie. The audio rights netted another 93 lacs, while the DVD rights are also expected to fetch about 50 - 60 lacs. The Satellite rights were sold to Asianet for 4 Crores.!!
The worldwide gross of the movie till now shall easily cross 16 Crores, but recovering the humongous budget of the movie, is still a good distance away from reality. Casanovva is expected to overtake China Town in Worldwide Gross Collections, but would still remain classified as a failure at the boxoffice incurring a loss of atleast 1.5 to 2 Crores for its makers, Confident Group.
However, it needs to be considered that, the mileage and promotion which Confident Group has achieved for there own brand, through producing this movie, is much beyond what they could have managed by spending this amount in there regular advertisements and marketing methods. In that way, Confident Group have in fact benefited from Casanovva.
