1.24 Crores Gross in 3 Days - Red Wine Opens Average

Red Wine opened to an average response, grossing 1.24 Crores in its opening weekend. But the fall on Monday is 50 - 60% generally at the metros, which is an alarming sign for a movie of this genre, which depends a lot on word of mouth, to be successful.

The first week looks to be in the range of 2 - 2.10 Crores at the maximum, and it would need a strong second week performance to lift the venture to financial safety, The patronage of families have eluded Red Wine, which may turn out to be deciding factor determining the Final Verdict.

The rough patch the boxoffice contiues for Mohanlal, Fahad and Asif. Meanwhile the wait for the Vishu biggies have already begun.!

3 DOTS makes a strong start - Boxoffice Update

3 Dots makes a super strong start at the boxoffice with the opening weekend gross in 2 – 2.10 Crores range as the early estimates. The film looks good to end the first week with a solid 3.25 -3.50 gross, which would help the distributors reach safety by the end of second week, unless the collections go for a freefall in the next weekend.

The word of mouth is mixed – below average for the movie, but the vacation season presents 3 Dots with an opportunity to cash in the open week, till Dileep’s Sound Thoma releases on April 5. Securing a strong initial was critical for 3 Dots, ever since the mixed opinion began to spread on Day 1, as the Vishu – Vacation season has no dearth in releases.

3 Dots faces a stiff competition from Amen, which has garnered a positive response. The film looks at a lifetime gross of 6 to 7.5 Crores depending on how the other Vishu releases fare the boxoffice. 

Boxoffice Review - 2013 Week 11

RANK # 1 - LUCKY STAR

Lucky Star collections have managed to pick up along the weekend, with the advent of summer vacations. But will the film last long enough in the theaters to take advantage of the preference which it will earn from the families is the question. Lucky Star holds on to 61 theatres in its make-or-break second week.

RANK # 2 - ITHU PATHIRAMANAL

Ithu Pathiramanal has released to average response. The boxoffice opening is not really gung-ho, and the film will find it difficult to gain any momentum this coming week due to the big releases. Don’t be surprised if you miss out this entry in the next week’s top five.

RANK # 3 - CELLULOID

Celluloid drops in week 4 about 45%, the largest weekly drop the film has seen since its release. The venture shall end up profitable as the film has managed a decent run at the theaters. Removals are expected to hit Celluloid hard in week 05 due to the big releases of Redwine and Three Dots.

Romans clings on to the BOV Top Five for yet another week. The most sucessful movie of the year 2013 till date continues its 60 day winning run in 20+ theaters. Will Three Dots continue from where the Romans have left it ? We will come to know this week.!!

Boxoffice Review - 2013 Week 09

RANK # 1 - CELLULOID

Celluloid registered a fabulous 3^rd weekend and stays put at the numero uno position for the second week in a row. The film looks set for a long run at the theaters , on the back of unanimous positive word of mouth and lack of big releases in the next couple of weeks. It is a grand comeback for Kamal and back to back success for Prithviraj.

RANK # 2 - ROMANS

Romans had another good weekend, and continues to be in the BOV Top Five for the 6^th consecutive week. The pace is now expected to slow down considerably as Celluloid has taken over the baton at Mollywood Boxoffice.

Verdict : SUPER HIT

RANK # 3 - DRACULA

Dracula continues to be in theaters, what ever be the reasons behind it. We are not into reviews, but into boxoffice analysis. Dracula has raked in some decent business despite the lack of quality content.

RANK # 4 - DAVID GOLIATH

David & Goliath have almost become extinct within a week of release. Not much more expected from the theaters.

Kammath & Kammath still hangs on the fifth place in BOV Rankings.  Not much is happening for the film in the past two weeks, but any collection added to the kitty is a surplus at this stage for Kammath& Kammath.

CELLULOID Has A Good Second Week - Boxoffice Update

CELLULOID is steadily marching its way towards boxoffice success as the status picked up once again in its third weekend. The film managed to gross approximately 1.60 Crores in its second week, showing a substantial growth of 45% from its first week collections. The 14 day collection is estimated to be in the range of 2.70-2.75 Crores, from 50 theaters.

This presents Prithviraj with back to back solo hits to go with the State Award for the second time in his career spanning a little over 10 years. CELLULOID marks a grand come back for Director Kamal, who though had given a couple of average grossers in the form of Gaddama and Swapna Sanchari in the last couple of years, was yet to deliver a clean boxoffice hit since Raapakal in 2005.

CELLULOID was a slow starter, but earned ravishing reports all over the state. The medias too gave it a thumbs up, and then came the State Award announcements as a the cherry on the cake, from where there was no turning back. CELLULOID, made at a budget of 3.60 Crores approx., should already be a safe venture, considering the rights amount involved in the current trade scenario and another week with steady collections should render it a HIT.

New Releases Fail At The Boxoffice

February saw a galore of releases, with almost all of them except Celluloid, sinking without a trace. Only an unanimous positive opinion could have provided even a glimmer of hope for any of these films, as the huge number of new releases resulted in severe shortage of screens for them to secure even an half decent opening.

While Celluloid marches forward with a fabulous word of mouth, supported with the push given by the State Award announcements and perhaps an ounce of controversy to go with it, Breaking News Live suffered the agony of being forced to open with noon shows alone in some of the major centers. The film has managed a meagre 26 lakhs from 10 days of theatrical run.

Housefull was Tiny Tom's first attempt as a solo lead and jyothirmayi's comeback to mainstream films as a heroine, but was hit back too, with lack of screen space and public attention. Housefull grossed 27 lakhs from 10 days.

Black Butterfly had a positive word of mouth, but despite the reasonably good content, removals from a significant number of centers did not spare it either. Cowboy faced the worst outcome of the lot, without a second thought, with the film remaining in just couple of A centers after 7 days.

Things may have looked different if the number of releases were more controlled within the State, but at the same time, there is still deserved encouragement for good content and entertainment value.
