RANK # 1 - CELLULOID

Celluloid occupies the top spot this weekend with encouraging reports and response from public. The second weekend has seen considerable growth from the opening weekend. Such movies tend to perform well if given a long run, and Celluloid in all senses can give Prithviraj back to back successes, if that happens.

RANK # 2 - DAVID & GOLIATH

David and Goliath has opened to above average houses in about 40 theaters in Kerala. The opening has been affected to an extent due to theatre shortage, and tough competition from successful films. Second weekend shall decide the verdict for the movie, which carries mixed opinon.

RANK # 3 - ROMANS

Romans continue the brilliant run in its 6^th week and the “Blockbuster” status is not too far away from its reach. Excellent start for Kunchako Boban and Biju Menon to an eventful 2013.

Verdict : Super Hit

RANK # 4 - DRACULA

Vinayan’s Dracula might have missed the bull’s eye by a good distance, but has managed to hold on to theaters despite a galore of new releases. But the time is running out for this 3D venture.

Gross : 1.09 Crores (17 Days)

Verdict : Below Average

RANK # 5 - KAMMATH & KAMMATH

Kammath & Kammath just manages to hang on to the Top Five this week, overtaking all the underperforming new releases. A successful multistarrer to kick start 2013 for Mammootty and Dileep.

Verdict : Hit 

Boxoffice Review - 2013 Week 06

RANK # 1 - NATHOLI ORU CHERIYA MEENALLA

NATHOLI managed to take a decent opening all over Kerala with mixed reviews. The film has been appreciated by a sector for its freshness in theme and presentation, which may come to its rescue in the coming week, but the high number of new releases may affect the long run.

Gross : 0.82 Crores (3 Days)

Verdict : AVERAGE OPENING

RANK # 2 - KAMMATH & KAMMATH

Kammath & Kammath holds on to the second spot with an impressive weekend, enjoying the fabulous support of the family audience, and also benefitting from the outright failure of Lokpal. The movie is definitely a profitable venture, even after considering its high production budget. The final verdict depends on how much it can collect from here on.

RANK # 3 - ROMANS

Romans continue to march on succesfully with impressive collections during the weekend, and is undoubtedly the film which is least affected by the new releases. Romans shall continue to be in theaters for some more weeks to some for sure.

Verdict : SUPER HIT

RANK # 4 - LOKPAL

Lokpal comes out as one of the notable disasters of recent times, and a back to back boxoffice failure for Mohanlal. There is nothing much expected from the collection boxes from now on, other than from the B or C centers.

LOKPAL is a Boxoffice DISASTER

Mohanlal’s latest release LOKPAL has been rejected outright by the viewing public, and the movie is almost extinct  from the theaters in Kerala, as it enters the 3^rd week of theatrical run.  The 10 day gross collection of the movie is 1.73 Crores. LOKPAL garnered almost unanimous negative reviews from critics and paying viewers alike, and the failure of this magnitude was on the cards since the collections dropped on the 2^nd day.

The pre release hype for the movie was exceptionally good, as the previous outing of the Joshiy-Mohanlal combo, Run Babby Run was extremely successful at the boxoffice. LOKPAL is expected to be out of the theaters by the end of 3rd week, as new releases are galore.

The failure of LOKPAL has mostly benefitted ROMANS, which has managed to pick up come backs in close to 10 centers in the state, and also to KAMMATH & KAMMATH which had a tremendous second weekend.

Verdict : DISASTER

Boxoffice Review - 2013 Week 04

RANK # 1 - KAMMATH & KAMMATH

Kammath & Kammath has a taken a magnanimous opening as expected. The opening weekend was simply awesome even by the standards set by masala potboilers of recent times. If the film can hold up well during the week, we have a big winner in our hands.

Verdict : Massive Opening

RANK # 2 - ROMANS

Romans is the first HIT of the year 2013, and stands unperturbed amidst the frenzy caused by Kammath & Kammath. The collections dropped on Friday due to the new release, but the weekends were productive.

Gross : 6.01 Crores
Verdict : HIT

RANK # 3 - PLAYERS

The film got released after being in the rusty box for quiet some years, and clearly had not much chances at the boxoffice.

Gross : 0.15 Crores approx (3 Days)
Verdict : Flop

RANK # 4 - NEE KO NJAA CHA

Nee Ko Njaa Cha performed much better than the expectations and is definitely a break even venture for the makers and distributors.

Gross : 1.78 Crores (24 Days)
Verdict : Average

RANK # 5 - ANNAYUM RASOOLUM

The year kick started with Annayum Rasoolum securing a decent opening of about 50 - 55%, but the distinct lack of commercial elements fired back, and the film could not hold up well enough in the subsequent weeks to be called a succesful venture.

Gross : 2.40 Crores (24 Days)
Verdict : Average
